There is a phrase that we use today to describe someone who has gone off the deep end or is doing something they shouldn’t do…we say that they’ve gone sideways. God identifies those kinds of “off base” moves as inconsistent with who God is and what God wants. The word “sin” is used in the Bible to describe when we’re off the mark and need to get back on track with God and with each other. Our families, our workplaces and our communities are better places when we work at staying on track with God.
