Knitters and Crocheters
The Knitters and Cocheters will resume weekly get-togethers on Tuesday, September 7th, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. @ Colonial Park in the Annex. We welcome any newcomers to the group regardless if you are a beginner or an “old hand” at it. We have loads of donated yarn and extra knitting needles or crochet hooks. We could sure use more workers. It’s fun and fellowship!
The group makes sweaters for Knit for Kids; hats, mittens, baby afghans-blankets, and scarves for Morningstar Pregnancy services; hats, scarves and mittens for Neighborhood Center; and afghans (lap robes) for homebound people. For more information please call Nancy Kimmel at 545-9302.
Another group of knitters and crocheters meet @ Rutherford on the 2nd and 4th Monday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. If you prefer these evening times please contact Becky Frey at 561-0213.
Restaurant Fundraisers are back!!!
Last year we made close to $3,000.00 towards summer mission trips from the restaurant fundraisers. Now a new year is upon us and a more challenging one as well. We doubled the number of students that went on mission trips last year and if this continues we will need all the resources we can get to ensure these students get to meet Christ up close and personal. We are looking to take two trips again this year with the High School probably looking at an international trip.
That being said – You can help! This is an easy and fun way to support the youth. We all have to eat and once a month the youth are asking you to join them at a different restaurant, purchase your meal and a percentage of your bill will be given to the youth missions ministry. Our first Restaurant Fundraiser will be September 7th at the RED ROBIN on Jonestown Road. This event is from 4:00-8:00 p.m.. You will need a ticket and that can be gotten from the information tables at the back of each worship service as well as the church office. This will help our church as well. By our next newsletter we will have all the rest of the fundraiser dates in place and you can get them on your calendars.
Ignite Student Ministries
It is hard to believe that summer is over and our students are back in school. While most of us have been enjoying our summer – Our Youth Pastor – Josh Maatman, has been using this summer to meet with students and put together a year of challenges for each of our students. Join us as we kick off the year on Wednesday, September 8th where we’ll unveil the 2010-2011 calendar of events and our new mission approach H3: Helping the Hungry and Homeless. This will be how we keep our mission spirit alive throughout the year and not just during the summer.
By the way – September 8th – We will be ICE BLOCKING & Tailgating! For those of you who attended this event last year you know how much fun it was! If you missed it last year you won’t want to miss it this year. Do not wear good clothes – We are getting bigger blocks of ice and bring a camera and some friends! This is a combined event for both High School and Middle School. Doors will open at 6:00 and the official slide will begin at 7:00 p.m.. We will be having food for this evening and drinks.

Mmmmm…Cookout for Leaders!
Calling all leaders to Leaders’ First. Monday evening September 13th, we are having a cookout to celebrate your ministry and leadership in the church. Dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. @ Colonial Park in the Pavilion with the meal provided by the church. Share a time of question and answer with Pastor Dave and find out how you can grow as a leader. Childcare (with pizza) is available if requested by September 8th.
Follow along with the New Living Translation
Want to follow along Sunday mornings? Wonder what the teaching pastors are reading? Starting Sunday, September 19th, the teaching pastors will be using the New Living Translation of the Bible (NLT). The TNIV, our current version, and The NIV will be discontinued and in 2011 they will put out a “new new” NIV version. Because there will be a lag time in production of the “new new” NIV, we are making the transition this year to the NLT. This translation was first produced in the late 1990′s. It stays close to the original Greek & Hebrew, but also tries to put things in a modern context/language. This version will be used on Sunday morning’s, in the teaching notes and in the Sermon Based Small Group Lessons. If you would like to know more, please visit www.newlivingtranslation.com.
Membership Class to Start
Our membership class includes three courses: Plug-In to God, Plug-In to S.H.A.P.E. and Plug-In to S.T.U.F.F. The class is held on Sunday evenings @ Colonial Park starting September 19th at the Plug-In Supper at 6:00 p.m. Members will join November 21st. You are encouraged to take the other two courses right away or in the near future. They continue on Sunday evenings, 6:30-8:00 p.m. until April 18th. Childcare is available if requested.
See You At The Pole
Wednesday, September 22nd at your school’s flag pole (check your school’s time). Come out to our rally on Sunday, September 19th at 6:00 p.m. @ Colonial Park’s pavilion (bring your small group!) for any help you may need to make it a success at your school. Begin now by praying for your school, your friends who may not know God as well as the teachers and administrators. Ignite Student Ministry leaders will be at most of the area schools. We are looking for additional adult leaders that can help with this effort. Please contact Josh Maatman at jmaatman@xpointumc.org for more information.
Also, we’ll be having some folks from CrossPoint @ South Hanover for this event of prayer and fellowship. If you’re interested, come on out with Pastor Jason and some leaders to pray at South Hanover Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. See page 2 for more information.
DEPTH CHARGE: Taking Sunday Mornings to a Deeper Level
Hard Questions the Bible Asks of Us
Each Wednesday starting September 22nd and continuing through October 27th, Pastor Dave will be delving into the hard questions that the Bible drops in our laps. This is an “open to all” study @ Colonial Park from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary where we’ll dive into the “Questions” series at a whole other level. During this time there will also be a class for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Please check the Worship Folders for specific details.
Baptism/Dedication Orientation
What is the difference between baptism and dedication? What does the church expect of people who have been baptized and of parents when they have their children baptized? These topics will be covered at the Baptism/Dedication Orientation on October 3rd. This is mandatory for those who want to be baptized and for parents who want to have their children baptized or dedicated. Anyone interested in being baptized or having a child (or children) baptized or dedicated should contact the church office prior to September 28th. Baptisms and dedications will take place on October 24th.

Please contact the Church Office or call (717) 545-1911 if you would be available on a monthly basis, or if you have any time to give at all, we’ll take ya.
